Tier 1 Network (T1)
Most small to mid-sized businesses and colleges have T1 lines for their Internet connections since large numbers of people can access the Internet from just one line. This 24 channel, large bandwidth data transfer system can rapidly transmit digital signals at 1.544 megabits per second (quite a bit faster than a 56K modem, which maxes out at around 0.056 Mbps).

Primary Rate Interface (PRI)
PRI is the standard for providing telecommunication services to large establishments. Slightly different than a T1, the data channel of a PRI is set on one carrier channel instead of spreading it over all 24. This provides higher intelligence for phone systems to transfer calls as well as providing better caller ID service. Both the PRI and T1 offer priority voice packets for quality of service.
